The third installment of our meet the Presidents series features Julie Jennings. Julie joined the LI council just 3 years ago as an attempt to meet people working within the industry and expand her network. Now, she is the President of the Sligo institute.
We spoke to Julie about her new role and what her plans are for the year!
What does the role of President mean to you?
I feel it is a great honour as I get to represent the Sligo Institute members both at Local and National Council. The Institute provides our members with a voice and allows their ideas to be heard, the benefit of which cannot be underestimated. It is honestly a great privilege to be President of The Insurance Institute of Sligo and I’m really looking forward to the year ahead.
What are your main objectives for the year?
My objectives for the next twelve months are to uphold the core values of the Institute - to Educate, Inspire and Connect our members. I will also endeavour to create a better understanding amongst members as to how the Institute works, its depth of expertise and how participation and involvement can enhance the careers of each and every member.

What challenges do you currently face?
Member engagement will always be a challenge for the Sligo Institute due to the geographical spread of our members. However, we would encourage our members to check out our diary of events and aim to attend at least one event during the year, I can guarantee they will enjoy it and no doubt benefit from attending too.

What advice would you give to people starting their career in insurance?
I would advise those of you starting your careers to get involved with your Local Institute, whether that be on Council or just by attending the events and CPD lectures. It is a way to meet like-minded individuals who can help point you in the right direction or at the very least put you in contact with someone who can.
